Launch of Master’s In American Studies: Politics, Strategy & Economics
The U.S. Embassy in Athens is pleased to announce its support for the first-ever Master’s program offered in Greece in American Studies. The program was launched on September 22, 2021, at a ceremony in Athens. The degree, entitled “American Studies: Politics, Strategy & Economics” will be offered by the Department of International & European Studies of the University of Piraeus, in collaboration with New York University’s (NYU) Center for Global Affairs (CGA). The U.S. Embassy in Athens has committed to funding four scholarships to the Council for International Relations–Greece for the program’s first year for Greek students seeking to further their education in American Studies. The scholarships are being provided as a part of the U.S. Mission to Greece’s campaign to commemorate the Greek Bicentennial with a year-long series of events and initiatives that highlight 200 years of U.S.–Greece friendship and shared values.nternational politics, with the goal of transforming current challenges into future opportunities.
The American Studies Master’s program aims to strengthen American Studies in Greece and the broader region. The program will encourage networking between American and Greek educational institutions, academics, and students; it will also promote people-to people ties and mutual understanding between the two countries.
Courses will be delivered by faculty of the University of Piraeus and guest lecturers from NYU’s Center for Global Affairs. The long-term goal of the program is to attract students from the wider region, and to partner with esteemed U.S. institutions to make this a truly international experience. The program will be 12 months in duration, taught in English, and will emphasize history, politics, diplomacy, energy, and economics.
