On January 12 and 13, 2023, the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus, in collaboration with the Research Centre of the University of Piraeus, the Council for International Relations–Greece, the Laboratory of Strategic Communication and Media, the French Embassy in Greece –French Institute of Greece, and the Greek Representation of the international political organization La Renaissance française, organized an International Scientific Conference entitled “100 Years of French Cultural Diplomacy: Greek-French Relations.”
The event was attended by Ioannis Chrysoulakis, Secretary General of Expatriate Hellenism and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ambassador of France to Greece, Patrick Maisonnave, who addressed the conference. The event was introduced by Christos Nikou, member of the Department of DES and chairman of the organizing committee of the event.
This was followed by a keynote speech by Philippe Lane, Professor Emeritus and former Vice-Rector of the University of Rouen, entitled “The Cultural and Scientific Diplomacy of France. A Great Historical Tradition. (Reports and Studies 1922-2022).”
During the conference, Greek and French academics, diplomats, and cultural historians gave speeches on Franco-Greek relations and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
