On June 2, 2022, the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Piraeus in cooperation with the USC Election Cybersecurity Initiative (supported by Google), the USC Institute for Technology Enabled Higher Education (USC ITEHE) and the Council for International Relations–Greece, organized the International Conference: “Cybersecuring Democracy,” at Zappeion Megaron.
Welcome remarks were addressed by Konstantinos Floros, Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, Vangelis Kalpadakis, Diplomatic Adviser to the Greek Opposition’s Leader, Kostas Bakoyannis, Mayor of the City Athens, George J. Tsunis, US Ambassador to Greece, Athanassios Platias, Professor of Strategy, University of Piraeus, and Chrysostomos L. Nikias, President Emeritus and Professor, University of Southern California and Chairman of International Advisory Board, CfIR-GR.
Keynote address was delivered by Adam Clayton Powell III, Executive Director, Election Cybersecurity Initiative University of Southern California, CfIR Advisory Board.
The first discussion was titled “Cybersecurity and Cyberthreats”, with keynote speakers:
Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of State and Digital Governance of the Hellenic Republic and Clifford Neuman, Director of the USC Center for Computer Systems Security and USC Viterbi School of Engineering. George Tsihritzis, University of Piraeus, Andreas Liaropoulos, University of Piraeus, Ioannis Konstantopoulos, University of Piraeus and Lilian Mitrou, University of the Aegean, participated in the conversation. The discussion was moderated by Konstantina Botsiou, CfIR, University of Piraeus.
The second discussion was titled “Cybersecurity and Democratic elections” with keynote speakers Makis Voridis, Minister of the Interior of the Hellenic Republic, Matt Turpin, Senior Advisor, Palantir Technologies and Sarah Mojarad, USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Adam Clayton Powell III, CfIR and Christos Hadjiemmanuil, University of Piraeus, participated in the conversation. The discussion was moderated by Aristotle Tziampiris, CfIR, University of Piraeus. Closing remarks were addressed by Aristotle Tziampiris, CfIR, University of Piraeus, Chrysostomos L. Nikias, President of the CfIR Advisory Board, former President of USC.
