On November 18, 2021, the Council for International Relations–Greece, in cooperation with the Department of International & European Studies of University of Piraeus organized a hybrid discussion at the Laskaridis Foundation titled “The Geopolitical Storm Surrounding Semiconductor Chips,” with keynote speaker C. L. Max Nikias, President of the University of Southern California.
Athanasios Platias, Professor of Strategy at the Department of International and European Studies at University of Piraeus, and George Tsichritzis, Professor of Informatics at the University of Piraeus, participated in the discussion.
The purpose of the discussion was to present the importance of semiconductors in the modern world economy, as well as the tensions of the “cold war” type created between US and China as the COVID-19 pandemic fueled an explosion of demand, supply chain complexity, and 5G hardware telecommunications challenges.
The importance of highly skilled workforce training in this area as well as Europe’s role and future projections, were topics that have been analyzed.
The discussion was moderated by Aristotle Tziampiris, Professor of International Relations, Department of International and European Studies, University of Piraeus.
