Health issues have reached the top of the international governance agenda in recent decades, as states show a growing interest and invest more in health to promote and support economic and social needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has emerged in the midst of a multilateral crisis, particularly at a time when multilateral cooperation is more important than ever to prevent the virus’s spread.
As in every historical situation in which changes in the international system occurred, it is now necessary to establish a form of international order based on international rules, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation mechanisms aimed at promoting the common interests of states in order for the world to survive.
This edition aims to contribute to the global discussion of the Pandemic and its various aspects. The book is divided into three sections: The first examines the evolution of the post-Pandemic world order in light of US-China geopolitical rivalry, transatlantic relations, and EU geopolitical challenges, exploring the conditions for a common and cooperative policy.
The second focuses on the impact of the Pandemic on international organizations, international economic order, sustainable development, and human rights, emphasizing the role of international organizations, while the third attempts to address the challenges posed by COVID-19 in various ways in domestic political systems.
Professor Eirini Cheila authored the introduction and edited the book. The prologue has been composed by Professor Aristotle Tziambiris.
