The Council for International Relations–Greece (CfIR-GR) is an organization founded by 60 prominent academics with expertise in international relations, economics, institutions, and politics.
CfIR-GR’s vision is to contribute to regional stability by understanding the complexities of 21st-century issues and developing ideas that promote and help formulate Greece’s position in an increasingly challenging international environment.
The Council’s mission is to conduct in-depth research, propose strategies, and generate new ideas to help leaders in Greece, Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean understand the current realities of international politics, with the goal of transforming current challenges into future opportunities.
In this context, we are pleased to present you our range of research interests and activities over the past four years.
We organized conferences around the topics of Maritime Security, Democracy, Cybersecurity, as well as Energy, Security and Migration in the Eastern Mediterranean.
We hosted multiple seminars, book launches, lectures, debates, and webinars about current issues affecting global politics, such as Greek–Turkish relations, the US elections and nuclear proliferation.
We ran a series of discussions on Greek Grand Strategy with seven leading keynote speakers, including but not limited to Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis, and Alexis Tsipras.
We hosted a Minister’s Forum with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus and three Ambassador’s Forums with the French Ambassador, the US Ambassador, and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
We contributed to a podcast regarding Greece’s current maritime rights challenges, the tensions in East Med, and the diplomatic efforts and EU sanctions against Turkey.
We published four new books about the topics of Covid-19 and Global Relations, Democracy and Grand Strategy.
